چکیده

Severe falciparum malaria is common in tropics, patients usually present with any of the following manifestations or combination of cerebral manifestations, circulatory failure, liver failure, acute lung injury and acute kidney injury. Pulmonary manifestations in falciparum malaria usually include acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and acute lung injury (ALI)1. Here, we present two cases of Plasmodium falciparum malaria manifesting as diffuse alveolar hemorrhage (DAH). The reports on DAH are scarce. The use of steroids improved DAH in both the cases. Mechanism of diffuse alveolar hemorrhage in falciparum malaria is still not clear, and further research is needed regarding the pathophysiology and therapeutic intervention. This case report emphasizes on future research.

Diffuse alveolar hemorrhage associated with proteinase 3-specific anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies.

A 31-year-old man was referred to our hospital for the management of progressive diffuse alveolar hemorrhage associated with renal dysfunction. Leukocytoclastic vasculitis was shown by skin biopsy and crescentic glomerulonephritis was also detected, in addition to positivity for proteinase 3-specific anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (PR3-ANCA). The patient was diagnosed as a rare case of ...

Delayed Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome Presenting as Diffuse Alveolar Hemorrhage

Hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) is defined by the triad of mechanical intravascular hemolytic anemia with schistocytosis, thrombocytopenia and acute renal failure. Pulmonary involvement in HUS is known to be rare. We present the case of a 25-year-old male with diffuse alveolar hemorrhage and myocarditis followed by atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome. In this case, successful treatments included...
